BACKGROUND
The series stars Gloria Gasper, a charismatic 30-something woman and her partner Jay Majumdar. Our “every-woman” character is an ambitious, career focused woman, facing pressure to reproduce from her mother, her friends, society and her own biological clock.
Jay and Gloria met at a Halloween party two years ago. He was Mr. Clean and she was Princess Leia. They hit it off when he offered to wash her hair. Gloria’s still Jay’s princess but Jay gets annoyed when she calls him Mr. Clean because he’s proud of the order he keeps in the house. How else would she ever find her keys?
GLORIA GASPER
Gloria’s real passion is painting but she knows she needs to hold onto her day job a little while longer. Gloria works part-time as a graphic designer for a large oil company. She wouldn’t mind the job so much if the executives would stop referring to Gloria’s passion for painting as a cute hobby. A notorious procrastinator, what she lacks in discipline she makes up for in talent. She’s not a fan of deadlines but often it’s the motivation she needs to get things done. She knows if she was a little more organized, she would likely make a living through her painting. But her friends disagree, they love Gloria’s spontaneous nature and they know when the chips are down, she’s there for them.
JAY MAJUMDAR
Like Gloria, Jay has had some success as a photographer, but his main bread and butter comes from wedding photography gigs. Recently some of his old clients have approached him to take photos of their babies. He’s flattered by the repeat business but getting babies to smile is tougher than getting Bridezilla to unclench. Jay and Gloria rent a funky older house in the city’s arts district. Jay wants to save up for a bigger home that requires less maintenance but Gloria is happy to live in a house with character.
THE SCENARIO
Jay and Gloria aren’t opposed to the idea of having kids but the problem is neither of them are quite where they pictured themselves to be at 33. There’s the career hurdles, adjusting to coupledom and future in-laws but Jay and Gloria still have a great time “playing House.” That is until the “baby question” creeps into their relationship. Instigated from a close-call, Jay and Gloria find themselves lost in analysis paralysis as they try and decide when would be the right time to take the plunge off THE BABY CLIFF.
Each episode features Jay and Gloria’s worst BABY CLIFF nightmares and greatest BABY CLIFF fantasies.
